Impacto dos conservantes utilizados em cosméticos na microbiota cutânea

Resumo

A microbiota cutânea desempenha papel fundamental na manutenção da homeostase, integridade da barreira e proteção da pele. Nesse contexto, os conservantes são amplamente empregados em formulações cosméticas para controlar o crescimento microbiano e garantir a segurança e estabilidade dos produtos. Este estudo teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão narrativa sobre a influência dos conservantes utilizados em produtos cosméticos sobre a microbiota cutânea, considerando suas principais classes, mecanismos de ação, efeitos sobre microrganismos residentes e fatores relacionados à formulação e às condições de exposição. A análise das publicações selecionadas evidenciou que os efeitos dos conservantes
podem variar de acordo com sua composição, concentração, veículo, tempo de exposição e características da formulação. Embora alguns estudos tenham identificado alterações em determinados microrganismos, as evidências disponíveis não sustentam que o uso de conservantes necessariamente resulte em disbiose da microbiota cutânea. Além disso, estudos
com formulações cosméticas completas indicam que a atividade antimicrobiana observada experimentalmente nem sempre resulta em alterações detectáveis no microbioma cutâneo. Conclui-se que o impacto dos conservantes sobre a microbiota cutânea é multifatorial, destacando a importância do desenvolvimento de formulações que conciliem segurança microbiológica e preservação da microbiota cutânea.
